The controller feels like it rests nicer into your palms/fingertips and adds a slightly more hefty feel (on top of the already hefty elite controller) which I like. The chat pad isn't heavy on it's own but adds just a nice amount of weight towards the bottom of the controller that shifts the balance point a bit. The controller actually feels a bit better with it on imo. So far it has worked everywhere you would normally type something.entering a code, typing in the browser, searching in youtube, text entry in games, sending messages, etc. Never again do I have to do the d-pad dance to type something out. It's incredibly handy to have a KB available under your thumbs at any time. I'm using this with my Elite controller and don't see myself ever taking it off. The headset jack is directly in the middle of the chat pad's bottom edge. The mute button lights up in orange while mute is on. There are no dedicated mic monitoring buttons.that still has to be adjusted through the settings menu. Just like the standard adapter you can adjust chat/game mix, volume, and mute on the fly. The chat pad has a headset adapter built in along with button controls for it. The programmable functionality will not be available until a "mid-2016" update according to the product description at which point you will be able to assign other functions of your choice to the buttons instead. By default X1 takes a screenshot and X2 captures a game clip. Each keyboard letter can do upper case, lower case, and 2 additional symbols.a lot of characters for such a small KB. There is a shift key and 2 modifier keys like on the 360 pad which allow you to enter the all the alternate symbols. There is a slight tactile click to each key press. You have to be a little more careful than with the 360 chatpad's more spaced out keys but it doesn't take long to adjust to. The buttons themselves are smallish with no space between them but have rounded tops which makes them easier to hit and differentiate from each other. The keys all light up evenly in white when any button is pressed and then it automatically goes out a short while after you stop typing. The whole process took a couple minutes with no issues. It recognized and showed an image of the chat pad on the controller update screen and also appeared to do a firmware update on the chat pad itself. When I first plugged the chat pad in it prompted me to do a controller update. It also includes a short USB cable for updating your controller (not needed for new controller models that can update wirelessly). I don't have much to say about the headset itself as I use Cloud 2's instead (which work perfectly btw). It comes with a standard, mono MS headset that has an in-line mute/volume switch although this is unnecessary since the chat pad itself has headset controls on it. There is no movement/wiggle to it at all when used. It snaps on to the bottom of the controller and runs off of controller power.no additional charging or batteries are needed unlike most 3rd party models. It's the same essential style and concept. If you had the 360 chat pad then you know what to expect here. I just picked up the new controller chat pad from the Microsoft Store yesterday so thought I'd throw out some impressions: The views of the moderation team do not reflect the view of Microsoft or its subsidiaries.
